What is God?

What is God is a question that has boggled the minds of scholars, theologians, philosophers and every day people.  I reached a quandary in my life, a state of uncertainty regarding the existence of God and the general understanding of the meaning of life.  At first I used to ask myself, “Who is God?” and then I realized that I was asking the wrong question.  I began to ask, “What is God?” instead.

While I was raised in a very strong spiritual family, I still had personal issues grasping and accepting the existence of God.  I decided to go back to classic literature, back to ancient philosophy for answers. Education was and always will be the gateway to resolution.  I stumbled upon my book of essays by Ralph Waldo Emerson.  I opened the book to a random page and it was his brilliant essay “The Over-Soul.”

“Why do men feel the natural history of man has never been written, but he is always leaving behind what you have said of him, and it becomes old, and books of metaphysics worthless? …Man is a stream whose source is hidden.   Our being is descending into us from we know not whence.”

This message is a very important component of my book THE LOGICAL MEANING OF GOD.  I researched “books of metaphysics,” “the natural history of man” and the teachings of the ancients Greeks.  After reading THE OVER-SOUL I was inspired to learn more about the “stream whose source is hidden” and discovered an abundance of information.  I was getting closer to answering my question, “What is God?”

I needed a vehicle to organize all of my findings.  I wrote down all my thoughts, understandings and questions about God.  Being a third generation writer, following the literary legacy of my family, writing my book THE LOGICAL MEANING OF GOD was the logical step.

As I did with Emerson, I revisited many classic writers and philosophers with an entirely new appreciation.  As my research turned into notes, and notes turned into pages, I realized that in order to understand the meaning of God, I also needed to understand the meaning of Life.  I have concluded that the meaning of life is a never-ending quest to find the purpose and clear understanding of my life and my life alone while coexisting, respecting and tolerating everyone else’s journey through mortal existence.

The goal of THE LOGICAL MEANING OF GOD is to logically drive home the point that life is based on a one-to-one relationship with the totality of Existence or God if you prefer.  I use my life experiences and my research to emphasize this position.  I reference philosophies, theologies, and theories from thousands of years ago to present day.

“Man is a stream whose source is hidden.”

I explore and explain ancient and contemporary spirituality and science.

My intent is to summarize my life experiences and education (to this point) in understanding the meaning of Life and the Logical Meaning of God.   In many ways, you will see that my definition of God will be a reaffirmation to some but a redefinition and new understanding and appreciation of God and Existence for others.
