Brilliant guitar showcase. Joe Lynn Turner's vocals were great. Highlight was "Icarus." |

Saw them in a club as an opener - wasn't impressed. |

Battle Hymns
 |
This was the debut release tour. It was a loud, long show. It was good, but got a bit boring after a while. It was cool seeing Ross the Boss, whose name I recognized from my 70s rock magazines as the guitarist for The Dictators.
Actually a friend of mine played drums for Manowar during their demo sessions. It's through him that I met, Ross the Boss.

Fugazi
 |
I had fallen in love with this band with their debut Script for a Jesture's Tear. Being a HUGE Gabriel-era Genesis fan, I was finally getting that type of music again. True, Marillion at first were pretty much an early Genesis clone, but hell, if you are going to clone anyone, that's not a bad choice. They finally came to the US with their second release, Fugazi. Another brilliant record with much better production values than Script. They opened for Rush at Radio City Music Hall. I think maybe only a half of dozen of us knew who Marillion were. I think I might have been the only person standing up for them and applauding. Their sound was a little off due to technical difficulties and not performance and I know the crowd couldn't see past that.

Misplaced Childhood
 |
They opened for Rush once again only this time in an arena. Fish, the lead singer stepped up to the microphone and said, we have a gift for you tonight, this is Misplaced Childhood and they pperformed it in its entirety without a break - in true concept album tradition.

Clutching At Straws
 |
I saw this tour twice. It was amazing. At a club called the Chance, Fish jumped into the crowd, put his arm around me and we sang together. It was very cool |

Season's End
 |
Saw this tour twice too. It's a great album but different without Fish on vocals. Hogarth was a completely different type of singer. Unfortunately a lot of people in the crowd were chanting "we want Fish" which made it a little difficult for Hogarth. In fact, when he started to sing the epic classic "Script for a Jester's Tear" something went afoul technically and he stopped. He said, "sorry, let's try this again" and pulled it quite well.
The band was stellar as usual.

Holidays in Eden
 |
This was a good sophomore release for Hogarth. Marillion really started to develop their own sound and were no longer Genesis clones. The previous album started that with un-Gabriel like vocals, but the music was still the same as expected. |

| Megadeth |

Rust in Peace
 |
They opened for Judas Priest on the Painkiller tour. They put on a good set. I also saw them perform one song at "Concrete Metal Award Show"

And Justice For All

They were on a Monsters of Rock bill and put on a pretty solid performance. Favorite song of the night was "Creeping Death"

Born 2B Blue
 |
This was a pretty cool show. Steve Miller split the show into two parts. The first half was dedicated to all classic Blues songs that appeared on his new release; unfortunately the crowd wasn't into these obscure gems. It was very cool though. The second half of the show was filled with radio familiar classics including his signature "Fly Like an Eagle." |

Demo era

This was before their first album came out. I only went because on the radio they said Terry Bozio formerly of UK's new band. It was at My Father's Place in L.I.. I sat at a table with David Johansen. |

Octave
 |
The Moody Blues were a band I really liked as a little kid in the late 60s. I finally got to see them on the Octave tour at Madison Square Garden. It was a superb performance. |

The Other Side of Life

This time I saw them at the Pier in NYC. They actually were very rocking. "Just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band" was really the highlight with an extended jam. |

Run For Cover
 |
Great show. Bob Daisley was on bass. Highlight was "Out in the Fields." Gary Moore's guitar work was fantastic. |

The Maze
 |
He was absolutely amazing. His band was tight and his performance was stellar! Though I listened to his earlier releases and even saw him when he played lead for Alice Cooper but I truly became a fan of his that night. |

| Motley Crue |

Girls, Girls, Girls
 |
First concert I walked out on (about 3/4 through though). I thought they were sloppy and too poppy.

| Motorhead |

Ace of Spades
 |
What can I say. These were legendary shows with the best Motorhead line-up; the original Line-up with Lemmy, Fast Eddie and Philthy Animal. The first time, they opened for Ozzy who debuted his solo career with Blizzard of Oz. That was an amazing concert. Next time Motorhead headlined the Palladium. |

They opened for The Scorpions. Not too memorable, but not bad either. |

Built to Destroy
 |
This was the first time I saw the master, Michael Schenker and he was absolutely brilliant. Hearing the long live version of Rock Bottom was nothing short of sensational. Gary Barden was on. Schenker destroyed NYC that night. |

Perfect Timing
 |
Though Schenker took an approach to try to attain commercial success, the album and live shows were awesome. McAuley belted out the classics like Lost Horizons while delivering the new fresh material.

Save Yourself
 |
I thought this album and tour was even better than the previous. The title track Save Yourself was the opener and Schenker ripped with an amazing lead. He also performed the long, fan favorite UFO classic "Rock Bottom" and many more UFO tunes.

Unplugged

This was a special night at NYC's Marquee theater. It was Schenker unplugged. I never heard an acoustic guitar get shredded like that before. He pulled off a stunning solo with Lights Out. |

Unforgiven
 |
This show kicked major ass. Schenker was in incredible form pumping out songs I hadn't heard live before like Assault Attack. Keeley was amazing on vocals. |
